Daniel Esty es Profesor Hillhouse de la Universidad de Yale con designaciones principales en la Escuela de Medio Ambiente de Yale y la Facultad de Derecho; y con designaciones secundarias en la Escuela de Administración de Yale. También se desempeña como Director del Centro de Derecho y Política Ambiental de Yale (www.yale.edu/envirocenter) y como Director de la Iniciativa de Yale sobre Finanzas Sostenibles. El profesor Esty es autor y editor de catorce libros (incluida la guía de premiación de la sostenibilidad corporativa, Verde a Oro) y decenas de artículos sobre política ambiental y energética, sus conexiones con enfoques regulatorios, estrategia corporativa, medición del rendimiento de la sostenibilidad, competitividad, comercio y éxito económico. Su volumen (editado), A Better Planet: 40 Big Ideas for a Sustainable Future, fue nombrado mejor libro de 2019 por The Financial Times y su libro  The Labyrinth of Sustainability: Green Business Lessons from Latin American Corporate Leaders recibió elogios de la crítica por su análisis de la sostenibilidad corporativa en el contexto latinoamericano. Su libro más reciente,  Values at Work: Sustainable Investing y ESG Reporting, acaba de ser publicado por Palgrave Macmillan.

Entre 1989 a 1993, el profesor Esty ocupó varios altos cargos en la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los Estados Unidos. Durante este tiempo, dirigió el proceso de revisión regulatoria de esta agencia y ayudó a negociar el Convenio Marco sobre el Cambio Climático de 1992. Durante 2011 y 2014, regresó al servicio del gobierno como Comisionado del Departamento de Energía y Protección Ambiental de Connecticut. En este papel, lideró los esfuerzos para redactar la primera estrategia energética de Connecticut, lanzar un Banco Verde para promover la energía limpia y reestructurar los programas regulatorios del estado. Conocido por su trabajo innovador en la interfaz negocio-sostenibilidad, el Profesor Esty también ha proporcionado asesoramiento estratégico a empresas, gobiernos, organizaciones internacionales, ONG y fundaciones de todo el mundo.

Dan Esty is the Hillhouse Professor at Yale University with primary appointments in the Yale School of the Environment and the Law School with a secondary appointment at the Yale School of Management. He also serves as Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy (www.yale.edu/envirocenter) and as Director of the Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance. Professor Esty is the author or editor of fourteen books (including the prizewinning guide to corporate sustainability, Green to Gold) and dozens of articles on environmental and energy policy – and their connections to regulatory approaches, corporate strategy, sustainability performance measurement, competitiveness, trade, and economic success. His (edited) volume, A Better Planet: 40 Big Ideas for a Sustainable Future, was named a top book of 2019 by The Financial Times and his book The Labyrinth of Sustainability: Green Business Lessons from Latin American Corporate Leaders received critical acclaim for its analysis of corporate sustainability in the Latin American context. His most recent book, Values at Work: Sustainable Investing and ESG Reporting, has just been published by Palgrave Macmillan.

From 1989-93, Professor Esty served in a number of senior positions in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  During this time, he led EPA’s regulatory review process and helped to negotiate the 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change. From 2011-14, he returned to government service as Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. In this role, he led efforts to draft Connecticut’s first energy strategy, launch a Green Bank to promote clean energy, and restructure the state’s regulatory programs.  Known for his innovative work at the business-sustainability interface, Professor Esty has also provided strategy advice to companies, governments, international organizations, NGOs, and foundations around the world.
